Brown Turtle Press is proud to introduce Bending the Bow.

Bending the Bow celebrates Africana art and poetry. The idea started with Frank Chipasula ’s recently published
book Bending the Bow, which explores the theme of love in African poetry. Some of the poets from the anthology will
be present for a reading and to present their poetry into the local schools. There will be an exhibition featuring work
from the artist, whose work is on the cover of the book. A booksigning and poetry gathering will also take place.

“Bending the Bow” suggests a hunter preparing his weapon for the hunt that will bring sustenance to his family, but it can also refer to the musician tightening an instrument or to prepare for the telling of a story. Bending the Bow in this case is a gathering to bend the bow of art, readying voices and hearts to a battle for peace and understanding. Please join us for this celebration of Africana art, love and poetry.
